The invention of the disc is closely connected with human socio-cultural evolution.  The collection is dedicated to the evolution of recorded sound, from the first wax cylinders of 1877 to modern laser discs.

The collection includes some rare pieces:  the oldest instruments conceived by man to reproduce sound; recordings of important speeches given by historical figures, such as that by Victor Emmanuel III on the occasion of his taking the throne (1900); old gramophones and rare 78 rpm discs; “picture discs,” such as the one designed by Pablo Picasso, and original tickets for the Woodstock Festival.  The museum contains guitars autographed by Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant as well as gold and platinum discs awarded to the most important rock musicians:  Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones.

Of note is the vast collection of opera librettos, from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
